MFA Thesis Show / Claremont Graduate University, 2017.

At the center of this thesis show is a proposal that the space of art is uniquely capable of supporting the contradictory yet connective nature of communication and language and is an optimal forum for introspection and discovering meaning. It is about exploring a dialogue between new and traditional representations of communication, symbology and identity.  I zoom in on familiar, banal or commonly overlooked elements found in ubiquitous digital and analog streams of visual information, take those fragments apart and mash them together into new structures. New possibilities are then discovered. Additionally, I refer to a vast, visual library of forms and symbols I have created through a daily, contemplative drawing practice. I will reintroduce drawn fragments to new structural possibilities by experimenting with scale, material and the proportional relationships between drawing

and painting.
